David Bareford is an award-winning playwright whose work has been produced nationwide, earning multiple sold-out regional runs, festival honors, and strong audience acclaim. His plays are known for their deeply human characters, theatrical imagination, and a distinctive ability to weave humor, history, and emotional truth into compelling ensemble stories. He often writes about ordinary people confronting extraordinary pressures—historical, emotional, or supernatural—and has become known for work that moves audiences fluidly between laughter and catharsis.
His notable plays include Don Quixote de La Center, Live in 3, 2, 1…, There’s Still Snow on Silver Star, Seeking Mister Hyde, Small Potatoes, and Spirit/Song. His scripts are published by Playscripts, Heuer Publishing, and Next Stage Press.
Bareford is the Resident Playwright at Love Street Playhouse in Woodland, Washington, where several of his premieres have originated, and he is the co-author of Theatrical Violence Design (Routledge Press), a definitive text on stage combat and storytelling. A former Chicago theatre artist and a working American Sign Language interpreter, he brings a deep commitment to accessibility, ensemble craft, and the power of live performance.
He lives and writes in Washington State.
