Matthew "Moose" Flanagan is a boy of twelve whose father has taken moved his family to tiny Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. It is the year 1935, a time when the island's prison holds infamous criminals like Machine Gun Kelly and Al "Scarface" Capone.
The good-hearted Moose must negotiate life with among the other guards' children on the island, and figure out a way to help his autistic sister get into the school she needs to...perhaps with the aid of the prison's most famous prisoner.
Adapted from the Newbery Honor Book and New York Times bestseller by Gennifer Choldenko, this adaptation is the official stage version approved by the author.

“ As soon as I started reading this great play I was struck by the wonderful way that David creates the initial childlike dialogue, making these innocent children amusing and wonderfully believable as they talk about the life of their families. Interlacing that innocence with the dark and dangerous world of dangerous criminals makes for a wonderful piece with places of humour, quick and witty dialogue and a fascinating story. ” Rachel Feeny-Williams, playwright
